You don’t need to be in the south of France to enjoy a scenic camping holiday. The UK has a wealth of beautiful coastline, rolling fields and mountainous peaks to capture the heart of every camper. Here are some of our favourite spots around the UK to pitch up for the night.
A lush, mountainous landscape, Snowdonia is a wonderland for outdoor enthusiasts. Climbing, hiking and mountain biking are all popular pursuits in this part of Wales, and the nearby coastline is a designated Special Area of Conservation. Camping here is for those who want to get out and explore, with everything from beaches and coastlines to deep valleys and high mountains to choose from!
Located in the south of England, the New Forest was maintained as a Royal hunting forest back in 1079! Containing swaths of forest and England’s best preserved heathland, the area is a haven for wildlife, including sika, roe and red deer, as well as free roaming ponies, rare birds and all three British snakes. It’s a picturesque and tranquil place to camp, where you can settle in forested glades next to traditional English villages.
Majestic, soaring mountain peaks characterise this wild and rugged landscape. Camp here for pure adventure, with mountain climbing, skiing and gorge scrambling all popular activities. Head to the coastline to spot seals and dolphins, and discover the rich and turbulent clan history that comes alive in the country’s old and ruined castles.
This corner of the south west has some of the most diverse landscapes, making it suitable for any type of camper. Rugged moorland and rocky cliffs lead down to turquoise waters and sandy beaches, where you can go surfing, sea kayaking, or even dolphin watching. This part of England is a recognised Celtic nation, with its ancient heritage still apparent in many of the towns and villages that dot the landscape.
Undulating pastures divided by a network of rivers and lakes, Norfolk is the driest and sunniest place in the UK, a landscape of glimmering water and old windmills. The Broads is a protected area of waterland, where you can go boating amongst the reeds and take part in some of the best birdwatching the isles have to offer. Woodlands and farmland offer plenty of walking opportunities, making this the perfect camping place to relax and rejuvenate.
