Essential DIY Tools for Beginners

Unless you’re an experienced handyman, even basic DIY jobs can seem a big task. Equip yourself with these essential tools and they’ll see you through almost any DIY project!

Screwdriver Set

Probably the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a DIY kit, a good screwdriver set is versatile and easy to use. Look for sets with a range of magnetic tips, which includes a variety of flat head and Phillips screw heads of different sizes.

Claw Hammer

An icon of toolkits, you’ll be amazed at how many jobs the claw hammer comes in handy for. Aim to get one with a rubber grip, as this not only makes it easier to control, and therefore much safer to use, but it also helps absorb shocks better.

Utility Knife

Whether for opening boxes or cutting through cable ties, a sharp Stanley or utility knife will come in handy on plenty of DIY jobs. Invest in a high quality knife with a solid safety catch.

Tape Measure

Essential for accuracy across virtually all DIY projects, a tape measure is a key tool for any household, even if you don’t do much DIY!

Crescent Wrench

A crescent wrench is a versatile tool, giving you the benefit of a variety of sizes of wrench but in one handy piece! For tightening and loosening nuts and bolts, you’ll find it a valuable addition to your tool kit.

Level

The basic household tasks of hanging pictures and putting up shelves will all require a level to make sure they aren’t wonky! A traditional spirit level will do fine, although laser levels are even more accurate and only need one hand to use.
