Get the Luxe Look for Less

You don’t need to hire your own personal interior designer to achieve a stylish and luxurious look in your home. With a few clever tricks, you can create a modern, high-end look for your home without breaking the bank. Here are some of our favourite ideas.

Refurbish Furniture

Rather than buying new furniture, think about dusting off your DIY and painting skills. Customising existing or second-hand furniture is a much cheaper way of bringing a new look into your home. The savings will be considerable, and you get to create something unique to you. Try adhesives that look like high-end surfaces, such as marble and wood, to create the illusion of these materials in your home. You can use metallic colour blocking along edges to add a touch of opulence or update handles and door knobs with crystal, glass or ceramic alternatives.

Statement Lighting

Lighting can say so much about a room. It’s a powerful way to create the right atmosphere without spending much money. Swap out fabric ceiling lights for crystal and glass pendants, chandeliers and table lamps. Floor lamps can add a stylish touch to your interior, but avoid traditional shapes and fabrics. Try retro lamps or modern arc lamps for a designer look that’s also classic and timeless.

Go Oversized

From mirrors to artwork, using oversized decor is a little trick that gives a home the designer look we often see in magazines. Luxe interiors don’t shy away from making a bold statement. When you use materials such as metallics, abstract designs and geometric shapes, you can quickly turn even the most boring room into something show-stopping. Carefully choose at least one luxurious statement piece for each room to give off an impression of grandeur.

Feature Wallpaper

Create a feature wall using damask or luxe-flocked wallpaper. Choose muted colours, such as creams, golds or silvers, rather than bold colours, such as pinks or oranges. If you don’t want to cover an entire wall, you could use wallpaper in accent areas, such as on the chimney breast or in alcoves, creating a touch of luxury without costing the earth in wallpaper rolls. If you want to show off your artistic skills, you can try painting a glamorous design on a feature wall.
