From football and rugby to cricket and racing, Spring 2019 is full of events to keep your eyes on. Whether your team is playing, or you are just looking for something to watch on TV, here is a little preview into the upcoming sporting events.
1st February – 16th March 2019
The annual northern hemisphere Rugby Union championship between England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales, this competition started off with a win for Wales vs. France on the opening night in France. Continuing with wins from England vs. Ireland and Scotland vs. Italy, this is building up to be an extremely exciting tournament full of action. The 125th edition of this competition, Ireland are looking to reclaim their title after winning the Grand Slam in 2018.
12th – 15th March 2019
The jump racing event of the year, Cheltenham offers four days of extraordinary fun. Starting with Champion Day on Tuesday and finishing with the Gold Cup, this event is sure to be packed full of action and excitement. So, get ready to place your bets and cheer your horse to the finish line!
14th – 17th March 2019
The earliest start to the F1 season since 2015, this race takes place between the 14th – 17th of March. Sure to be full of speed and skill, the usual superstars like Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo look to start their season off with a win. Taking place at Melbourne’s Albert Park, this is the race we’ve all been waiting for.
11th -14th April 2019
The first of the four major championships in professional golf, Patrick Reed looks to keep hold of his 2018 title from a stacked field of competition. Taking place at the legendary Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, US, this will be the 83rd edition of this incredible tournament.
30th May – 14th July
Hosted by England and Wales, this is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup. Starting off at The Oval with a match between England and South Africa, the game’s best players will be on show to decide the best team in the world. Set in some of the most iconic grounds in the world, the final takes place at Lords on the 14th of July.
1st June 2019
The biggest club trophy in football, this year’s Champions League Final is held at Athletico Madrid’s beautiful new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. Still in the early stages of the competition, this year’s trophy is up for grabs between some of the biggest clubs in the world including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and more. Spanish giants Real Madrid have won the last three Champions League trophies, can they make it four?
5th – 6th June 2019
Missing international football after last summer's World Cup? The inaugural Nations League Finals is here to sort out your sporting needs. Taking place in Portugal with matches between Portugal and Switzerland on the 5th, with the Netherlands playing England on the 6th, this is sure to be full of exciting action. Playing for a spot in the Finals, the winners take home a beautiful silver trophy and a bucket load of prize money.
