2020 Wedding Trends

2020 Wedding Trends

Planning an event as significant and special as a wedding offers never-ending opportunity to express your individuality and creativity while embracing modern styles and movements. Influenced by the constant evolution of fashion and design, wedding trends inevitably change from year-to-year. Aiming to inspire and excite, here’s an insight into the top wedding trends of 2020.

Sustainability

As issues surrounding sustainability and global warming become a more mainstream concern, there’s been an upward curve of eco-conscious weddings. Environmentally-friendly weddings aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the festivities in a number of ways – from cutting back on the use of plastics to feeding guests with a menu of locally sourced, seasonal food.

Gone are the days of shipping in blooms from far afield as brides-to-be opt for locally grown botanicals or hand-picked wildflowers. Presenting your pretty arrangements in gorgeous glass or ceramic vases is a great alternative to flower-foam and gifting, planting, or composting your flower arrangement and foliage after the big day is another way to further reduce their environmental impact.

Think about the long-term life of the decorations and accessories that you choose. Upcycling or donating materials and fabrics such as tablecloths and table runner will give them a new lease of life. Choosing reusable place settings or biodegradable paper name cards, paper decorations, and eco-friendly alternatives to confetti – such as bubbles or ribbon wands – will all help to make your magical day unique and special while reducing its impact on the environment.

Sustainable Wedding bAR

Self-Service Bar

A casual but potentially dangerous way to offer beverages to your guests, a self-service bar reduces the requirement for bar staff and allows your friends and family to help themselves to the soft drinks or liquor as they please. From classy glass decanters and jugs to full-size barrels and bottles on rotating dispensers, creating your own bar for everyone to enjoy is just another way to personalise your day. Leave a cluster of tumblers, pint glasses, and champagne flutes at your drinks station or lay out trays of glasses pre-filled with champagne, punch, and juice. If you’re supplying bottles, make sure you leave a bottle opener or two lying around.

Big & Bold Florals

This is the year to truly wow friends and family with fabulous floral arrangements that have an impact. Going all-out in breath-taking blends of colour and size to maximise their showstopping appeal is definitely in. Raising floral arrangements up above the table to gives your guests a clear view of one another. Suspended garland rings and wreaths and clouds of perfectly positioned flower heads utilise the unused air space, leaving more room on the table for gorgeous dinnerware.

Epitomising true romance, the rose is the favoured flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. From beautiful bouquets to breath-taking arrangements, expect to see roses in all colours making a come-back as the most desirable floral feature of 2020.

Classic Blue 202 Wedding Trend

Banquet Tables

Rising in popularity through last year, 2020 will yet again see brides organising their seating plan atop sketches of long banquet tables rather than multiple circles of seats. Adding an element of grandeur to the night, seating all of your guests along one or two rows with the lucky couple in view of the masses will top the list of seating plan layouts in the coming months.

Maximalism

In contrast to last year’s reserved block colours, muted tones, and sleek stylings, this year will see a rise in all-out medleys of pattern and gorgeous clashing décor. Don’t hold back on the use of bold colours and shades with lustrous pearlescent, iridescent, and metallic accents to create a chaotic scene that you can truly get lost in. There’s no such thing as “too much”.

Every new year brings with it a new trending colour. Last year saw delicate hues of living coral decorating every surface and item. This year, Pantone - the US company famous for its colour matching system (PMS) – has chosen Classic Blue.

Calm and confident with a lavish and rich feel, hunt down pretty pieces accented with this timeless tone. Something old, something new, something borrowed, and lots of classic blue.

Touchable Textures

Embracing the maximalism further, a diverse array of textures atop every table and surface at your reception makes for a more immersive experience. Your guests will love running their fingers across lavish velvet tablecloths and blends of embroidered, stitched, and shimmering fabric. Contrasting these textiles with sleek and smooth metallic ornaments, lustrous foiled serveware and tinted glasses, and additions of rugged wooden detail, you’ll create an unforgettable celebratory experience.

The Dress and Veil

Vintage-inspired outfits have taken over the aisle runway with lavish embroidered lace at the forefront. A recent trend of personalised embroidery has swept in with celebs such as Hailey Bieber customising their outfits for the big day with bespoke sentiments. Grab a needle and thread and transform your veil into a unique and ultra-personal accessory that doubles as a nod to your loving relationship.

Whether you choose to embrace this year’s trends or go down a different aisle with the look and feel of your big day, you can find a sublime selection of decorations and accessories in our Wedding shop.
