Although Charles III was named King after the unfortunate death of Queen Elizabeth II, a coronation will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023, wherein the King will be officially crowned, alongside the Queen Consort, Camilla.
The coronation, code-named Operation Golden Orb, is a symbolic religious ceremony which formalises the Monarch’s role as the head of The Church of England, as well as signifying the transfer of title and power.
Although the official Coronation will follow long-standing traditions, there will be a variety of exciting events across the weeken. As announced by Buckingham Palace, there are a number of other celebrations which we can all take part in.
There will be an additional bank holiday across the UK this year on Monday 8th May, where people are being encouraged to partake in volunteering activities within their local communities, as part of the Big Help Out Initiative.
Alongside this, Celebration Big Lunch street parties are also encouraged, in order to celebrate with your community and enjoy this joyous occasion!
