Back to Uni Essentials

So, you’ve gotten into Uni (Congrats!) and now you’re preparing to take the big step and move out. Whether you’re staying in halls or a shared student house, there are some items that you just can’t go without. Here’s a handy list to help you prepare:

Bedding

Students need sleep. Lots of it. Make sure your bed is kitted out with sheets, a duvet, and a pillow so you can recharge after long study hours and endless parties. If you want to make your bed even more inviting, consider a mattress topper and some extra cushions.

Personalise

When you arrive at your new digs, you’ll want to get it feeling like home. Personalise your space by hanging pictures of home, fairy lights, and a poster or two. Don’t forget to pack Blu Tack and pins to help you decorate! If you’re low or storage space, then a bookcase might be a good investment for your vast amount of reading material.

Kitchen

Whilst it may be tempting to live on take-aways and microwave meals, cooking your own food is much healthier and will save you loads of money. Pans and utensils will help you advance your culinary skills and delicious recipes are a simple internet search away. Find out if your accommodation has a kettle and a toaster - if not, then you’ll want to get them for breakfast before your 9am. And remember to pick up some crockery and cutlery or you’ll be eating out of the pan!

Cleaning

Unfortunately, the dishes aren’t going to do themselves. If you slack on chores, then you’ll soon find yourself wearing last week’s clothes while you search for a clean bowl. Washing up liquid, tea towels, and laundry detergent are the basic cleaning products, but you may find yourself wanting to sweep or mop the floor. An airer will stop your clothes from smelling damp and make sure you have a bin to dispose of any rubbish.

Parties

A major part or university life is attending or hosting socials and parties with your new-found friends and coursemates. Arm yourself with shot glasses, and get creative with your fancy dress. Inflatables, ping pong balls, and glowsticks are also a great way to liven up Freshers Week.

Studying

Let’s not forget the main reason you’re there! Prep for your seminars and lectures with a fresh set of stationery and a few new notebooks. Organising your work space will help you keep track of all your coursework and deadlines so a desk tidy and pinboard are useful too. If your campus library isn’t open 24/7 then you’ll want to be able to continue your all-nighter at home with a mug of coffee and some snacks.

Have fun, study hard, and check out our Student Shop for more essentials before you go.
