Winter Craft Ideas for Kids

Keeping the little ones entertained as the weather gets colder and the days get darker can seem like an impossible task. Time spent in the park and playing outside seems a thing of the not-so-distant past, whilst inside activities have become key to keeping children engaged. Our Winter Craft Ideas for Kids have plenty of fun arts and crafts activities to pass the time.

Toilet Roll Snowman

What you will need:

  • Toilet paper roll
  • White paper
  • Pencil/pen
  • Coloured paper or coloured pens
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

Step 1: First, select your white paper and cut it to size to cover the toilet roll. Kids' craft scissors are a great way of keeping little hands safe. Alternatively, for young children, you can do this part for them.

Step 2: Once the paper is cut to size, use a glue stick to attach it to the tube.

Step 3: Now it's time to add a nose, eyes, mouth and arms. Using a pencil and coloured paper, draw out your snowman features, cut them out and stick them on. If you don't have coloured paper, white paper and coloured pens will work just as well!

Step 4: Once you have created your snowman buddy, why not try other wintery characters?

Snowy Tree Finger Painting

What you will need:

  • Sheet of paper
  • Fingerpaints
  • Black marker or black paint and brush

Step 1: Painting can get messy, so start by putting down protective paper or an old sheet.

Step 2: Select a piece of coloured paper or card, this will be the backdrop to your beautiful snowy landscape, so blues work best!

Step 3: Using a marker or paint, draw the trunk and branches of a tree and any other details to bring your painting alive.

Step 4: Once dry, dab your fingertips with white paint and place these onto the tree branches to create your wintery scene.

Step 5: You can add snowy ground, falling snow or even a snowman to your winter landscape.

Penguin Pebbles

What you will need:

  • Pebbles
  • Paintbrushes
  • Acrylic paint

Step 1: Start by ensuring your workspace is clean and clutter-free. Pop down old newspaper or a table cover to minimise mess and make post-clean-up easy.

Step 2: Ensure the pebbles are clean and dry, removing dirt and grit before painting.

Step 3: Take time to select your penguin design. There are different kinds of penguins with varying shapes and colours, perfect for letting kids' creativity run wild. You can sketch your design out with a pencil first or jump straight in with painting.

Step 4: Select a flat brush and acrylic paint to paint your penguin's body. Once dry, use a fine-tipped brush to add a bright-coloured beak and cute little eyes.

Step 5: Why not take this opportunity to add any optional extras, maybe a pipe cleaner scarf or a touch of glitter?

Paper Snowflakes

What you will need:

  • Paper
  • Scissors

Step 1: Start by taking a square piece of paper and folding it into a triangle. Fold the triangle in half again. Fold over the right-hand side of the triangle.

Step 2: Turn the sheet of paper over and repeat the fold with the other side to form an arrow shape.

Step 3: Now it's time to shape your design. Take a pair of craft scissors and safely cut the sides of your paper. Ensure you don't snip all the way across because this will break your snowflake.

Step 4: Once happy with the design, open it up to see your masterpiece!
