We all know how important a good night’s sleep is for us. A relaxing and tranquil bedroom is one of the first steps in making sure our minds and bodies get the rest they need, helping us to wind down and switch off at the end of the day. Here are some of our ideas to transform your bedroom into a heavenly sanctuary, where your worries melt away as soon as you close the door.
Remove clutter from your floor and surfaces. Having space in your room helps you to create space in your mind, immediately allowing you to wind down without distractions. Even just getting rid of unnecessary paperwork and clothes can go a long way in giving you the headspace to unwind. Invest in some wicker storage baskets, or make the most of under bed storage to keep clutter out of sight. Stackable decorative boxes and crates will keep your room looking stylish while safely storing your belongings out of sight.
Get rid of bedroom TVs or computers. This might be a big ask for some of you, but it can work wonders at helping you sleep better and longer. Using a TV or laptop before bed is known to disrupt your sleep patterns, so reduce the chances of temptation by keeping your bedroom an electronic-free zone. If this isn’t possible, buy a decorative fabric cover for your TV and store away your laptop when you know it’s time for bed.
Keep your bed linen soft, luxurious and clean. Wash your bed sheets as often as you can, and plump up your pillows each morning, ready for bedtime in the evening. Cover your bed with blankets, throws and extra cushions to create a sumptuous and cosy space to rest your head. Try a cashmere or textured bedspread, and treat yourself to a brand new pair of soft, warm slippers.
Stimulate your senses with oil burners, reed diffusers, incense sticks or scented candles, choosing scents that are uplifting and calming. Lavender, chamomile, vanilla and sandalwood are all known for their ability to relax our minds and promote deep sleep. Light them about 10 minutes before you go to bed so, when you open your bedroom door, you’re greeted by a gentle waft of tranquility and calm.
Place fairy lights and candles around your bedroom, immediately creating a soothing, ambient atmosphere. Low lighting is a great way to let your mind know that it’s soon time for bed, helping you to unwind naturally and fall into a deep sleep. A few tea lights on your dressing table and fairy lights strung up over mirrors creates a safe and inviting atmosphere and doesn’t take long to do. The difficult part will be not spending all evening in your new sanctuary!
