For those of us who want that bronzy glow without sitting in the sun for hours, fake tan is our best friend. Whether you’re a pro or an absolute beginner, we have some tips and tricks to ensure you get that streak-free finish.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Having a smooth base is one of the most crucial factors in achieving that seamless bronzy glow. Exfoliate and remove any unwanted hair the night before you plan to apply your tan. After you’ve done this, moisturise any dry areas, or areas the tan might cling to. This usually includes your elbows, knees, and ankles.
Apply your fake tan directly to your tanning mitt. To spread the tan on the mitt, bunch your hand into a fist inside.
Buff your self-tan into the skin in circular motions, focusing on one part of your body at a time. Don’t forget areas like the backs of your arms or the inside of your legs. Make sure you apply it evenly all over!
These areas are the trickiest to get right, especially your hands! You want your tan to look as natural as possible, so do these areas with just the residual tan on the glove, do not apply more tan to the mitt for these areas. Make a claw with your hands and feet, before using the glove to gently sweep over the area. This allows the tan to get into any creases in the skin.
To prolong the life of your tan, avoid hot showers and baths, and keep your skin well moisturised and hydrated! We recommend applying your fake tan at night, letting it develop overnight. Pyjamas are also likely to be the loosest of your clothing, reducing any unwanted patchiness! You can also use a kabuki brush over your hands, feet, and face just to ensure everything is properly blended.
After you’ve gently rinsed the developed tan from your skin, lightly pat the skin dry and enjoy your bronzy glow! Wash your tanning mitt with soap and water after each use to make sure your tan applies evenly each time.
