Make a Statement with your Lighting

The lighting in your home doesn’t just have to be functional. It’s also a fun and artistic way to refresh your interiors, helping to create atmosphere and adding another dimension to your space. Here are some of our ideas to brighten up your home with style.

Light Placement

Light up features of your home, such as dining tables and coffee tables with dramatic pendant lights. As no one will be walking underneath them, you can hang these lights lower for a more impressive centrepiece. The higher your ceilings, the larger your fittings can be, as they fill up otherwise empty space. Another great place for statement lights is either side of a large focal point, such as a fireplace or a mirror. This adds an attractive symmetry to your room and won’t get in the way of anyone walking through.

Table & Floor Lamps

Table lamps are small and versatile, and can add interest to a room without the need to spend much money or time. Try replacing plain lampshades with something bright and colourful, perhaps featuring a striking pattern that suits your decor. Crystal lamp shades can be beautiful and dramatic, refracting light through each individual piece of glass or acrylic.

Floor lamps can be made into statement pieces, whether it’s a modern tripod lamp or a beautifully embellished Regal-inspired light. Rather than tucking them into a corner of the room, place them in prominent places, such as beside a cabinet or your TV.

Decorative Lights

Fairy or string lights easily create atmosphere in a room and don’t cost the earth. Draped over the fireplace, on mirrors, or across windowsills, they can transform even the most humble piece of furniture. Try adding LED twigs or mini-trees to the corner of a room for a particularly magical focal point.

Extras

If you don’t feel like overhauling all of your lights, there are some simple changes you can make to quickly change the look and feel of your home. If you have pendant lights or exposed light bulbs, antique style bulbs add a fun and unique take on tradition, with exposed filaments and a soft 40W glow.

It’s much easier to change lamp shades than to replace light fittings, so swap out the plain fabrics for dazzling crystals and intricate, laser cut metal.
