Creating Memory Journal Diary

How to Make a Memory Journal

A memory journal is a creative and heartfelt way to keep treasured memories safe, as well as making a thoughtful gift for your loved one. Similar to scrapbooks and diaries, memory journals are a chance for you to unleash your artistic side, filling the pages with photographs, stories, ticket stubs, and creative decoration. Stuck on how to get started? Our handy guide is here to show you how to make one that you can treasure for a lifetime.

Writing in Scrapbook Journal

Find the Right Notebook

A spiral notebook is the easiest to base to work with when making a memory journal. The whole of each page is available, rather than getting lost in the centrefold. A larger size notebook, such as A4, will make it easier to stick in photographs and embellishments, as well as giving you more room to write down those memories. Most importantly, make sure the pages are nice and thick, allowing you to paint, stick, and colour without it damaging the other side of the paper. Accessories such as paintbrushes, craft glue, and even tape are a must-have for helping your creations stand out.

Gather Mementos

This is a fun part of making a memory journal, and involves gathering together old photographs, postcards, ticket stubs, and any mementos of special memories you want to write about. Print off maps of locations you’re writing about, and just have fun arranging and sticking all the different elements together. You could paint each page with a watercolour wash, edge them with cool borders and put stickers around as embellishment.

Get Making!

The best part is putting everything you’ve gathered together in a creative and memorable way. You could arrange the memories by their date, so that you can add to the journal as time goes by, gradually creating something you and future generations can treasure!

If you’re feeling really artistic, you could create different memory journals for different occasions, including a wedding journal, a holiday journal, or even a new journal every year, documenting the past 12 months of your life.

The only limit is your imagination and the memories that you want to capture. Looking for specific themed embellishments to help your personalised journal stand out? If so, why not check out our extensive crafting collection.
