Summer is called wedding season for a reason; the summer months are the choice times for weddings although there is no guarantee of high temperatures or sunshine! Maybe it’s the garden marquee reception, the outdoor hog roast barbecue and the more casual dress code that seems to make more people want their wedding in June, July and August. There are cons to a summer wedding of course: for example, venues are more expensive and tend to be fully booked way in advance. Whatever your reason to choose a summer wedding, these decoration ideas will make it look and you feel fabulous!
A simple bouquet of sunflowers or gerberas makes a striking, sunny statement in the aisle or as a centrepiece for tables. Another great idea for summer table decorations are bright, floral runners to complement the sunny weather.
Go for foliage as leaves don’t wilt in the heat as much as delicate flowers. You could even choose cactus plants for summer weddings or simply go for artificial flowers that won’t ever wilt!
Drop flower petals and leaves into clear glass vases for a flash of colour and texture in the base as well as in the bloom! Adapt this decor idea into see-through wine coolers on tables, drop a few petals and leaves as décor in the melting ice for a great looking centrepiece.
Try adding edible flowers or botanicals (mint, rosemary, basil, etc.) in ice cubes for a delicious boost to cold cocktails and drinks. Take this one step further and make some homemade ice lollies (you can still add edible flowers & herbs to them), and again, make sure the juice only ones are kept well away from the adult beverage variety!
Have punch bowls so guest can serve themselves and keep well-watered be sure to label anything alcoholic very clearly! Another good DIY idea for summer weddings is a beer barrow filled with ice for ice cold beer on tap.
Novelty cups are much more acceptable in the summer, think Miami Vice neon pineapples and hot pink flamingos!
A lovely touch for summer weddings is to have a box of hats (think Panama), fans (creative use of programmes perhaps), and parasols for guests to use if it is really hot. Alternatively, you might need to fill the box with fleeces and blankets if our summer weather isn’t playing ball!
Another pick and mix box idea is flip flops in various sizes so everyone can get into a beach feel and go slightly more barefoot as the dancing and temperatures hot up
And another idea for summer venue décor are garden games – try lawn croquet, boules and giant versions of Connect 4, Jenga, draughts and chess.
Weddings love string lights and in the summertime, it’s so lovely to stay outside and enjoy the cool evening and night under the stars – and don’t forget citronella candles to keep bugs at bay.
And finally, a firepit for a truly summer holiday feel – and to keep the late nighters toasty
