Whether in your garden or local park, playing outdoor games is a fun way to get the whole family having fun together, not to mention it barely costs a thing! Here are some of our favourite games that we are sure everyone knows, from the kids to the grandparents.
It’s not summer until there’s been a game of rounders at the park! Divide everyone into two teams, and choose your batters and your fielders. This is a great game for family outings, picnics or when you have a large group of people. Other great bat and ball games for the park or garden are cricket and baseball.
A simple game that kids and adults can enjoy, Frisbee is a cheap and easy way to bring some relaxed fun to summer afternoons and can be played with as few or as many people as you like.
Divide everyone into two teams, and try to take out your opponents by hitting them below the waist with an inflatable ball. Energetic and lots of fun, dodgeball is a great way to work off that BBQ and get everyone laughing.
This is a classic game that's ideal for small and large gatherings. Play five-a-side, three-a-side, or even one-on-one and see who can score the most goals. You only need a football to play - some parks already have goals up, or you can create your own goal boundaries with twigs. If you want to take your own goals for ease though, we've got plenty to choose from.
Simple and free to play, freeze tag requires you to freeze when the player who is ‘it’ tags you. Other players can untag you if they get to you before getting frozen! This can be played anywhere from the garden to parks and is easy for younger children.
Lots of fun to prepare and participate in; DIY obstacle courses can be as straightforward or complex as you like! Use hula hoops, ladders, and wood planks and be prepared to get dirty!
This game is popular in playgrounds and parks - some parks may have a hopscotch court already, but if not, you can lay your own or draw one on pavements or paths in chalk. Throw a stone onto the court, and players must hop and jump along the court to retrieve the object and reach the safe zone before returning.
